How do I register to bid?
Registration is free and takes about two minutes. Click "Register" at the top of any page, enter your name, email, and billing address, and verify your identity. Once approved — typically within minutes — you can bid on any open auction immediately.
What is a buyer's premium?
The buyer's premium is a percentage added to the hammer price (the winning bid) that forms part of your total purchase price. Agnew's standard buyer's premium is 20% on the first $500,000 of the hammer price, and 12% on any amount above that. The applicable rate is shown on each lot page before you bid.
Can I bid if I'm outside the United States?
Yes. We accept bids from registered bidders in over 180 countries. Some lots may have export restrictions — these are noted in the lot description. Payment is accepted in USD, GBP, EUR, and other major currencies via wire transfer or credit card.
What is an absentee bid / maximum bid?
An absentee bid (also called a maximum bid) is the highest amount you are willing to pay. Our system acts as your agent, bidding on your behalf only as much as necessary to keep you in the lead — up to your maximum. You will only pay one increment above the second-highest bidder, never your full maximum unless required.
How does payment work after winning?
After the auction closes you will receive an invoice by email, typically within 24 hours. Payment is due within 7 days for online-only auctions and within 10 days for live events. We accept wire transfer, ACH, Visa, Mastercard, and AmEx (cards subject to a 3% processing fee on amounts over $25,000).
How long does shipping take?
Domestic shipments are typically processed within 5–7 business days after payment clears. International shipments can take 2–6 weeks depending on the destination, customs processing, and any required export documentation. You will receive tracking information as soon as the item ships.
I want to sell. What is the minimum value for consignment?
We accept consignments for items with an estimated auction value of $250 or more. For individual items valued under $5,000, we may recommend our online-only auction formats or our Buy Now marketplace. Our specialists will guide you to the format most likely to achieve the best result for your property.
Are condition reports available before bidding?
Yes. Condition reports are available for all lots with an estimate of $500 or more. Click "Request Condition Report" on any lot page, and a specialist will respond within 1 business day. High-resolution images are also available on request.
